Maison & Objet can be found year-round at their online exhibition site Maison & Objet and More (MOM), connecting designers and individuals to the latest trends. Of MOM’s constantly growing collection of more than fifteen thousand products, ArchiExpo e-Magazine picked out a few repeating themes from their most recent additions.
The Hudson armchair from Essential Home is reminiscent of a style that gained popularity in the 1960s and 70s in shape and materials. The upholstered seat is supported by a wooden frame in varnished solid walnut or oak and its legs are capped with metal feet in a variety of tones in brass, nickel or copper.
Arianeské designer Janine Hulsker’s Boom armchair, which just won a 2019 German Design Award, proves that Dutch design is both classic and innovative. With a sleek mid-century form, the seat is upholstered in velvet and the curving back, armrests and legs are natural wood with the option of a range of light to dark finishes.
Danish manufacturer Getama revives the 1935 Venus Bench by Hans J. Wegner for La Boutique Danoise. The wooden bench features legs in oak and seat and back in walnut or oak with the option of upholstery.
Prepare for Take-off
Thai designers Salt and Pepper Studio in collaboration with Corner 43 Decor present the Sputnik collection (see featured image) which consists of chairs, benches and coffee tables. The collection, named for the 1957 Sputnik 1 Satellite launch, features bright shapes woven into the seats and table tops. The weaving is in polyolefin rope, a newly introduced material for outdoors which is recyclable and eco-friendly. The furniture’s supporting structure is made from steel, aluminum tube or stainless steel tube.
The Cosmo suspension lamp by Circu in collaboration with DelightFULL Unique Lamps is a tribute the space race. It resembles a galaxy of planets in stainless steel lacquered in glossy black and white. The supporting body of the lamp is brass and steel coated in gold-plated finish.
Pols Potten presents their new Boston black chair made from black powder coated iron. The metal frame of the seat and backrest in repeating rounded squares calls to mind a space odyssey. There are cushions available for the seat and backrest for greater comfort.
In the shape of flying saucers, the Collodi collection from Slovenian company Donar features rounded seats, side tables and footrests. Adding a classic touch to a futuristic design, colors and materials were inspired by the classic tale Pinocchio. All materials are eco-friendly with legs made of natural wood and the shell of the seat made in recycled compressed and molded felt.
The Dutch company Kidsdepot is ensuring style from an early age with a design for the nursery. The hanging lamp collection with a variety of six lamps in natural seagrass weave or bamboo is made for children but is sophisticated enough for any space in the home. The lamp cord is made from grey textile with a natural wood ceiling cap.
The natural beauty and texture of walnut are brought out in the SE NUX table by Maino Design Ukrain. Designed and manufactured by Yuri Ryntovt, the table represents the designers “eco-design” approach.
The Esprit Nature Wash Collection brings the raw and imperfect beauty of nature into the bathroom. Moroccan design studio Atmosphère d’Arganeraie makes wash basins from large tree stumps, maintaining the wood in its natural form and fitting it with sink fixtures that complement it.
Traditional Craft Inspired
Ek Chuak “Black Scorpion” armchair from Kóokay is upholstered in the classic “telar de cintura” embroidery, or “blackstrap weaving” which comes from Mayan textile crafts. Kóokay is a 100% Mexican company that celebrates the tradition, culture and diversity of Mexico.
The looms are from the 1950-60 century. They are the heart of traditional weaving in Sweden and very hard to get nowadays,” Anna Kniif of Pappelina told ArchiExpo e-Magazine.
The company also released the Peg rug, woven on a traditional loom using wooden shuttles. Tagged Made in Sweden, the PVC mat has pressed plastic ribbons, for greater strength and durability, and Polyester warp yarn
