Home to acclaimed universities and schools in design and architecture, the bustling city of Boston has a robust design scene. ArchiExpo decided to check it out.
We began the morning walking along historic corridors of the famous Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), visiting the design office of Gunadi Lamere Design, founded by designers Joel Lamere and Cynthia Gunadi. We interviewed them and found out about their upcoming furniture solo exhibition, continuing the success of their outdoor installation, Grove, in the Design Biennial Boston held last year.
We crossed the bridge from Cambridge to Boylston Street and caught up with one of the directors of the highly acclaimed design company, Mass Design Group. Amie Shao spoke to us about the upcoming launch of their “Bauhaus of Africa,” African Design Center, which opened this month for its first two-year training session.
Cristina Parreño, an architect originally from Madrid, gave us the opportunity to discuss her recurring project with MIT, the Tectonics of Transparency, showcased at the MIT Museum Studio.
The last stop was a vibrant talk with architect Brandon Clifford from Matter Design Studio on the banks of the Charles River, where we got a glimpse of their latest outdoor installation, called The Buoy Stone.
