Innovations in the Bedroom: Sleeping with Robots

Netherlands mattress and bed manufacturer Auping presented three innovations in the Sleep Lounge at IMM 2018: the Auping Connect, the Auping Support Scan and the Somnox Sleep Robot—in collaboration with Somnox tech company.

The Auping Connect is a device used to operate an adjustable Auping bed using an app on a smartphone. When the alarm “goes off”, it raises the adjustable mesh base of the bed to wake you up instead of ending of a heart-attack-type sound. It can communicate with other devices such as the thermostat, lamps or sound systems.

To better measure a person’s mattress needs, the Auping Support Scan is a measurement tool, sensors on the inside of a mattress collect information on a person’s body while laying down. The details are used to determine which mattress is most ergonomic for the person being measured.

One of the tech heads behind the Somnox Sleep Robot, wearing a T-shirt with the largely-printed statement “I sleep with robots,” explained how it helps improve sleep. In order to sooth our body and mind, to reduce stress and anxiety, the robot performs regulated breathing—it takes a few breaths less than you to help slower your breathing—, it can play audio such as rainwater and it turns off once you’ve fallen asleep. Check out the Crowdfunding campaign here.

With 130 years of experience, Auping aims to make all of its business processes C2C by 2020 by offering sustainable and honest materials and manufacturing upon demand.
