“It’s a tough one,” Mario Seneviratne, Director of Green Technologies said during the conference on LEED v4 at the construction trade fair Big5 2015 in Dubai.

Architecture professionals going from LEED v3 to v4, as Seneviratne explained, will come across some challenges.

“I’ve been all over the world to discuss the updates because many people, including the American people who developed this, are really having a hard time complying this on a credit-by-credit basis.”

Seneviratne has gained extensive experience in the global green building industry and has to his credit over 3.3 million sqm of sustainability and LEED projects in the Middle East and Asia.

His projects range from the first LEED building outside the United States in 2000 to the highest-rated new construction green building in the Middle East – the ‘DEWA Sustainable Building’ which achieved 98 LEED Points and LEED Platinum certification in 2012.

Seneviratne highlights the energy and atmosphere part of the certification; the category which offers 35% of all the points required. Listen to Seneviratne speak about the LEED v4 point system:

Why can’t we just get along? Listen to Seneviratne explain more about why architects and engineers need to communicate:

Ah, yes! The element often left to the side: commissioning. While Seneviratne adds humour to his talk, he stresses the importance of commissioning in order to earn a LEED v4 certificate:

Seneviratne spoke at Big5 in 2014 and 2015. Shall we see him again this year?
