The world’s first blockchain-based app for interior design and the furniture industry, DecorMatters functions with AR and AI technology and allows users to decorate real rooms.

Considered to be the world’s first blockchain-based creator ecosystem to reshape the trillion-dollar interior design and furniture shopping industry, DecorMatters continues its rapid growth by leveraging AR, AI and Blockchain technology in the Web3 era. The DecorMatters home design app allows users to decorate real rooms, host project events and play design games from which they can earn rewards. It has 10 million creators, 5 million free designs, 30+ US brands and unlimited collaboration opportunities.

With its headquarters in Santa Clara, CA, a short distance from the major tech hub of San Francisco, co-founders Farris Wu and Fay Yang chose to devise a plan for an app that could facilitate home remodeling and furniture shopping. The journey began in 2016 when the founders struggled through a personal home remodeling experience. They hoped to develop an app that would assist professionals and individuals working on home remodeling projects. Top interior designers such as Meg Leonard, Heena Gardner and Stacey have used the DecorMatters app with success.

In our interview with Farris Wu, CEO and founder, we learn how the creation of DecorMatters came to be, what benefits exist for contributing creators and how it helps professional interior designers working on major projects.

ArchiExpo e-Magazine: How exactly does DecorMatters work and what was the idea behind its creation?

Farris Wu: By using the power of creativity and converting the stressful home renovation process into a relaxing social gaming experience, DecorMatters is re-inventing the traditional customer journey for the trillion-dollar interior design and furniture shopping industry. With over 10M active designers, 2M creations, 30 national brands, 1M furniture items, and unlimited collaboration opportunities, the leading creativity platform continues its rapid growth by leveraging AR, AI and Blockchain technology.

Our AR technology allows users to visualize the entire design virtually in their real homes. This feature ensures that users pick the perfect furniture and decor items before making a single purchase. We also offer an AR ruler, developed with ARKit, to easily measure room dimensions. Our AI algorithm empowers the design automation and product recommendation we provide to users. Leveraging millions of rich content, our AI algorithm saves users time and energy by efficiently serving up the most relevant content based on their preferences. Our blockchain technology is the foundation to build a smart ledger that will allow us to reward content creators by sharing the profits we receive from their product recommendations and copyright authorizations.

ArchiExpo e-Magazine: How do product designers (furniture, lighting, etc) and interior designers contribute to DecorMatters?

Farris Wu: Everyone’s creativity comes together in one place at DecorMatters, whether you are a product designer, interior designer, furniture brand, hobbyist, home decor enthusiast, or student. Interior designers have the ability to offer creations to the community, discover and carry out projects with clients, and expand their design portfolio. Product designers can have their products uploaded and virtually placed in real rooms or templates. This allows anyone to envision any product as a complete design. The community is collaborative. While our 10M users may have different intentions for using the app, the passion for interior design is shared, and there is something for everyone. Creativity from everyone, product designers and interior designers included, is valued and rewarded.

ArchiExpo e-Magazine: What benefits does DecorMatters offer contributing creators to entice them to participate?

Farris Wu: There are plenty of opportunities to be rewarded and recognized. For the casual user (DIYers, hobbyists, decor enthusiasts, etc.) you can earn coins, increase your level, make it on the leaderboard, play and win design games, gain badges, send and receive gifts, and more. For the professional user (designers, brands, students, etc.), one can build a following and connect with other designers and clients, expand their design portfolio, create virtual stagings, and become an influencer.

ArchiExpo e-Magazine: Could this tool be useful for interior designers/decorators for major projects outside residential ones?

Farris Wu: Yes. Our app provides virtual staging for any room, building, or style. Interior designers have the ability to upload any space and decorate it with real furniture items. In our app, we also have a leaderboard showcasing the top influencers based on likes, gifts, badges, and more.
