Combining practicality, weather resistance, and aesthetic appeal, modern outdoor furniture has redefined the concept of outdoor living. Talenti: Interpreting the “My Africa” Book by Karen Blixen into Outdoor Furniture

Inspired by Africa, Ludovica+Roberto Palomba conceived the new Karen collection for Talenti, a brand in the high-end outdoor sector for residential and contract use. The project places aesthetics and craftsmanship at the center, through the encounter between different cultures and the love of nature but above all of Africa, a land that Ludovica+Roberto Palomba have always loved. The architects wanted to exalt the expression of craftsmanship and aesthetics, a personal and poetic interpretation of Africa, a meeting point of multiple inspirations. Hence, Karen, the name of the collection is a tribute to the author of “My Africa” Karen Blixen.

If the sofa is characterized by a tribal aesthetic that radiates the strength and beauty of the African lands, the living room armchair appears as a throne where the weave of the fabrics and the countless threads supporting the backrest imitate the design of a protective cocoon. A wooden base contrasts with the backrest where countless threads of fabric are woven and stretched over the structure, where soft cushions add comfort to the seat and wide backrest. The characteristics of the materials and finishes used make the product particularly resistant to sun, water and wear. The Karen collection is designed to be the protagonist of outdoor settings, but also to dialogue with other furnishing elements in the collection: sofa armchairs, coffee tables, dining tables and chairs.

Cinna: Ottoman and Lapel Bridge Chair

Cinna, the outdoor furniture brand by Ligne Roset, has a few newbies on the block. Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance designed Ottoman based on an idea, inspired by the traditional Moroccan pouf, created while working on a hotel concept in Marrakech. The hotel project didn’t materialize, but the designer couldn’t resist the oriental charms of the lounge full of “zenitude”, comfort and well-being. Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance’s work on quilting and color has added creative value to the Ottoman, making it modern for a long time to come.

Busetti Garuti Redaelli studio conceived the Lapel bridge chair which uses a complex braiding concept, made in Indonesia. The bridge features a charcoal-colored lacquered aluminum frame, a woven synthetic rattan backrest (high-density polyethylene) and a seat cushion in 24 kg/m3 polyurethane foam covered with 100% beige polyester fabric (with polyester slipcover).

GANDIABLASCO: Rubik’s Cube Transformed into Outdoor Furniture & More Collections

During the Salone del Mobile last April, the Gandia Blasco Group unveiled new products for its three brands: GANDIABLASCO, GAN and DIABLA. Gandia Blasco Group, a pioneering Valencian family company established in 1941, is renowned for its design and manufacturing of outdoor furniture, designer rugs and spaces. Our focus is on its brand GANDIABLASCO and six of its new products. One of our favorites is the Erno collection of outdoor furniture. Ernő Rubik devised the first prototype of the puzzle that bears his name in 1974 (Rubik’s Cube). Today, almost 50 years later, the author’s best-known game of logic and strategy inspires Alejandra Gandía-Blasco’s new collection for the outdoor furniture firm GANDIABLASCO: Erno.

The 2021 CAPA lounge line by Søren Rose has been expanded to include a chair, a sun lounger and different high and low tables. The brand has also expanded the ONDE collection by Luca Nichetto with a dining table, dining armchair and a club armchair pouf. Sebastian Herkern’s first work for the Gandia Blasco Group, ISLA for GAN, is now part of the catalog by GANDIABLASCO. The brand has designed a new collection of PERGOLAS in collaboration with Gensler, a global architecture and design firm wholly committed to sustainability and the power of design as a tool for transformation.

RODA: Zania, Onda and Eden

The 2023 RODA catalog includes a number of beautiful new items, of which we’re zooming in on Zania, Onda and Eden. The new Onda collection comprises a lounge chair, chaise-longue and pouf with cheerful, cozy shapes. The seating is soft and compact, with an inner water-repellent liner designed for carefree outdoor use. The base is covered with Batyline, making it immune to rips and suited for uneven paving. A practical strap handle on the two larger pieces makes the Onda easy to move around.

Eden, the modular sofa collection, finds renewed expression in natural teak. This previously unseen version amplifies and facilitates the combination possibilities with furniture made in this kind of wood. The design is distinct for its generous volumes and modular practicality, which can be customized with mix-and-match materials. The Zania table and chair integrate readily in all kinds of settings. The new collection is made in iroko, a warm-colored, durable wood with extreme resistance to wet conditions. The design features slatted surfaces and legs with rounded edges, both for the table and stackable chair.

Vondom: Roll in, Roll out – The Vineyard Collection

Vondom released a number of new products for its 2023 catalog as well, including our favorite “Vineyard” collection. The Vineyard collection, designed by Ramon Esteve for Vondom, is inspired in his own country house. The pieces are conceived according to the house, keeping the style of wood planks framed by powder-coated aluminum, combined with ergonomic upholstery. Each of the pieces in the collection has big and comfortable shapes with the option of wheels, providing mobility.

Eugeni Quitllet designed the Tulum collection to include a combination of top-quality furniture pieces that create a space with a different dimension; it provides indoor comfort while outdoors and is highly resistant to different weather conditions. Jean-Marie Massaud designed the Milos collection, a versatile collection of outdoor furniture. The different pieces are like a collection of rocks gently shaped by winds and waves that create a typical Mediterranean landscape. The designer’s intention was to bring to Vondom a non-Cartesian planning that you can combine organically, as life on a reef.
