A 366-meter-long footbridge with a garden has been designed by Thomas Heatherwick to stretch across the River Thames in London. Reputed for visionary solutions, London-based but world-renowned group Arup have been selected as bridge engineer and lead consultant. Actress Joanna Lumley founded the U.K. registered charity Garden Bridge Trust in order to make the Garden Bridge project come true.

Footpaths will weave through the garden, creating a new pedestrian route which will be free and open to all between the hours of 6 am and midnight. Award-winning landscape designer Dan Pearson leads this section of the project. London is said to be the greenest capital in Europe, with 40% of its surface area made up of public greenery. The garden will confirm London’s status as such.
