Fermob, renowned for its vibrant outdoor furniture, unveiled new indoor products during a press conference, while emphasizing its commitment to eco-manufacturing and sustainability through innovative practices.

Fermob, the celebrated French outdoor furniture company, is officially expanding its line with products designed for indoor use that feature indoor-specific attributes and versatile elements, including materials like wood and leather alongside metal.

During a recently held press conference in Paris, covered by our sister publication DirectIndustry e-Magazine, the company unveiled its new products and emphasized its deep commitment to eco-manufacturing and sustainability. Company leaders Bernard Reybier and Baptiste Reybier introduced the new Product Lifecycle Index (PLC) and a range of indoor furniture, underscoring their dedication to quality, innovation, and environmental responsibility.

Known globally for their colorful metal BISTRO chairs, seen in iconic locations from Times Square to the Forbidden City, Fermob has grown from a small family workshop in 1989 to a leading lifestyle brand. Its environmental initiatives are at the forefront of its strategy, focusing on eco-design, reduced material usage, and extended product lifespan.

Eco-Design and the Product Lifecycle Index

Fermob has been a pioneer in sustainable practices, implementing a zero-discharge paint chain for nearly three decades and launching the Re-Paint project to renovate and extend the life of its products.

By developing their own repairability and recyclability indices, Fermob ensures that 87% of their products are easily repairable and nearly 95% are fully recyclable. These efforts reflect Fermob’s RE concept, aiming to create products that are renewable, repairable, resaleable, and recyclable, demonstrating their commitment to addressing climate and biodiversity challenges through responsible production processes.

The company’s new Product Lifecycle Index (PLC) further solidifies this commitment by providing a comprehensive assessment of each product’s environmental impact, from design to end-of-life. This index not only guides Fermob in improving the sustainability of its offerings but also sets a benchmark for the industry, encouraging other manufacturers to adopt similar eco-friendly practices.

Repurposing Outdoor Pieces for Indoor Use

Fermob’s recent presentation underscores a unique strategy: the integration of outdoor aesthetics into indoor spaces. This shift acknowledges the blurring boundaries between interior and exterior environments, with 37% of Fermob customers already repurposing outdoor products indoors. The brand’s emphasis on co-design aligns with the adaptable nature of its products, promoting a seamless transition across spaces while embodying its core values of freedom, simplicity, and versatility.

Central to this strategy are three standout indoor products unveiled during the presentation. The iconic Bistro chair, now adorned with handcrafted leather plates, exemplifies meticulous craftsmanship and environmental consciousness. Partnering with equestrian saddle manufacturer Childéric Sellier, Fermob introduces a new level of sophistication, enhancing the chair’s aesthetic appeal and durability. This is included in the brand’s metal and leather range, along with the Surprising low armchair and Surprising footrest.

The Calvi table, featuring a phoenix tabletop, epitomizes Fermob’s commitment to versatility and sustainability in indoor furniture design. This diverse range of offerings signals Fermob’s intention to redefine indoor spaces with their signature style and eco-conscious approach, setting a new standard for contemporary interior design.

The STUDIE armchair range, initially launched in metal two years ago, represents a tribute to childhood and a reimagining of the traditional school chair. Designed with exceptional seat comfort and ergonomic considerations, the armchair has been revisited with a seat and backrest crafted from French oak wood. The armchair seamlessly transitions from professional office settings to cozy home interiors.

This diversification underscores the brand’s commitment to providing versatile solutions for interior settings while maintaining its distinctive style and color palette. With a focus on sustainability and timeless design, Fermob’s latest offerings signal a seamless blend of outdoor charm and indoor sophistication, setting a new standard for versatile, eco-conscious furniture.

Driven by a shared commitment to craftsmanship and sustainability, the collaboration between Fermob and Childéric Sellier signifies a convergence of expertise and tradition. Rooted in the art of leatherwork perfected over decades, Childéric’s craftsmanship complements Fermob’s timeless design philosophy, resulting in a collection of leather products that exude sophistication and durability.

The centerpiece of this collaboration is the Bistro leather chair, a marriage of practicality and sophistication. The iconic metal slats of the Bistro chair are adorned with exceptional quality French Cognac-colored leather, showcasing the remarkable hand-finished details. Whether used individually to elevate a room’s aesthetic or paired with metal Bistro chairs for a cohesive ensemble, the Bistro leather chair offers versatility and elegance in equal measure.

Additionally, the Surprising leather armchair and footrest, designed by Harald Guggenbichler, embody understated luxury with their seamless silhouette and premium leather craftsmanship.
