Luxury Swedish mattress company Hästens expands its 168 years of experience in the sleep field by entering the hotel industry with its Hästens Sleep Spa hotel concept. Already in cities like Paris and NYC, the company inaugurated its newly opened hotel in Coimbra, Portugal, last month.
The Hästens Sleep Spa in Coimbra, Portugal, opened in April and inaugurated in May. The sleep spa is a new hotel concept that Hästens initiated last year and whose sole focus is inviting guests to enjoy a world-class night’s sleep thanks to its handmade products—of 100% natural materials—and the decor of the hotel.
This new Hästens Sleep Spa in Coimbra has 15 rooms of modern style and elegance designed around the main theme: sleep. The rooms offer the serenity and tranquility of a sanctuary dedicated to personal comfort. Before reaching one’s sanctuary, however, guests are invited to participate in Bed Talks, conversations with sleep expert Dr. Edie Perry. The doctor gives advice on neck position, lumbar spine support and pillow choice which is taken seriously at the hotel by offering a Pillow Menu service; guests can choose from five Hästens pillows of varying sizes, materials and firmness.
The hotel draws inspiration from the Biblioteca Joanina, a historic site classified in UNESCO’s World Heritage and located at the center of the city, near the Hästens Sleep Spa. The rooms of Hästens Sleep Spa are decorated with 1,200 hand-carved marble books and engraved in gold with titles; the 4-month work of 18 artisans.
The lobby of the hotel, located in an impressive gallery, pays tribute to the Biblioteca Joanina with its monumental mosaic made of 419,992 tiles arranged geometrically on the floor and walls extending to the ceiling, in a representation of its shelves and extraordinary ornaments.
