ISH: Hygiene is the Hottest Word in Today’s Bathroom Design

In this historical time of a global pandemic, scrutiny of hygiene is at an all-time high. Despite a countrywide lockdown, ISH Digital kicked off in Frankfurt this week, and the first digital edition of the world’s leading trade fair for HVAC and water systems features new products and innovations in the fields of water and energy through March 26. Many of these meet a significantly increased demand for bathroom hygiene solutions. The good news: the bathroom is one of the easiest places to achieve a high cleanliness standard.

“When it comes to hygiene, there is no need to reinvent the bathroom,” says Jens Wischmann, managing director of DWA – the German Association for Water, Wastewater and Waste. “The bathroom is actually one of the cleanest rooms in any dwelling thanks to the surfaces and modern products, which are standard nowadays.”

From the touchless to the particularly easy-to-clean, ArchiExpo e-Magazine highlights four new products here. And since most of us are cooped up at home, there’s even a spacious tub built for two.

A200 Sensor-controlled, Touchless Flushing System from Villeroy & Boch

Stylish touch-free flushing is also possible in a residential setting with the A200 sensor-controlled, touchless flushing system from Villeroy & Boch. Geared to work with the manufacturer’s ViConnect toilet installation series, the system activates with a simple hand motion near the sensor – or, upon no wave, flushes automatically. Stainless steel and glass ViConnect flush plates are suitable for Villeroy & Boch’s wall-mounted ceramic toilets and drywall or brick construction.

Ming Washbasin from Kaldewei

Hygienic, durable, and 100 percent recyclable, steel enamel is increasingly the material of choice in the bathroom. A nod to Asian minimalism, the glazed steel-enamel Ming washbasin from Kaldewei is offered in four soothing colors: lava black matt, black, alpine white glossy, and alpine white matt.

Vernis Blend E Electronic Faucet from Hansgrohe

Suitable for public bathrooms, the Vernis Blend E electronic faucet from Hansgrohe is safely touchless and sensor-activated, thanks to a built-in sensor on its pipe.

BetteSelect Duo Tub from Bette

Nearly everyone is at home, so now’s the best time to double-up in the bath – at least according to Bette. The bathroom manufacturer’s new BetteSelect Duo tub comfortably fits two in a sculptural form crafted from easy to clean glazed titanium steel—a material that is also impact-, scratch-, and chemical-proof (think nail polish). With inner geometry following the shape of a trapezoid, the tub permits ergonomic back slopes on two sides. Even the long-legged slip right in – the largest of two sizes stretches a generous 180 centimeters long. See featured image.
