The award-winning luminescent concrete was as impressive on site as on paper. ArchiExpo followed the tour given by French journalist Cyrille Maury and learned more about the product first-hand.

The group Lumineo blends fiber optics into cement to create their translucent material Lumistone. It appears paper-thin but carries the weight of concrete. When used as the wall of a home or building, natural light is then able to shine through, cutting down on energy consumption and cost. Architects can consider its resistance to compression and abrasion for solid structures beyond walls.

Designers can experiment with curves and forms to create sculptures and furniture pieces because the material is also unaffected by heavy flexibility and tension constraints. It can be used inside or outside and treated with a maximum of applications such as polishing, sawing, grinding, sanding, piercing, drilling, etc.
