Here’s an overview of this year’s trending pool designs and some of the best outdoor furniture that would guarantee a good time during poolside fun this summer.

It is time to ramp up the poolside scene with the latest pool design trends, outdoor furniture that would make any party beside the pool a hit this summer. We’re seeing splashes of color with fun murals on swimming pool walls and on outdoor furniture ready to set the mood.

Uniquely Shaped Pools Peppered with Pops of Color

Swimming pool shapes and designs have mostly been minimalist and modern, with the standard rectangle or oval shapes dominating many outdoor spaces, painted or tiled in neutral colors of gray or blue tiles. This year, colorful shapes and whimsical patterns invade the pool area with designer Alex Proba leading the pack when she hand-painted murals on the walls of the pool that belongs to Marrow House, a private home in Rancho Mirage in California.

The pool at the Marrow House was renovated last year and it included colorful curved shapes that contrast the angular shape of the pool itself. Elongated orange petals twist towards a large pink and orange glob that is painted all over the pool’s steps. The pool has now transformed into a space that will be enjoyed by the residents of Marrow House this summer. (See featured image).

Another interesting swimming pool design project was done for another home called The Hill House Pool, where Proba applied the same hand-painting design process that she did for the Marrow House. Colorful shapes cascade from the rounded edges of the pool and meet at the bottom part. A circular hot tub complements the main pool, coated with lavender tiles and orange specks that resemble confetti and makes the pool interesting and very inviting to dip in.

Pastel Pink Painted Pool Decks and Graphic Art Murals

Graphic art and pastel colors on pool decks and terraces are getting on the radar this summer as well. An example is a newly opened establishment called The GoodTime Hotel that is trending with their striped pastel pink pool lined with pinstriped awnings located in the Strawberry Moon, the hotel’s very own 30,000 square foot pool club. Owned by artist and musician Pharrell Williams and entrepreneur David Grutman, the cool pink pool was designed by Ken Fulk and built by New York firm Morris Adjmi with the landscape created by landscape architect Raymond Jungles

Another interesting pool deck that has been brought to life and filled with graphic art and colored shapes is the 8,000 square-foot pool deck of the public pool of Roosevelt Island’s Manhattan Park Pool Club. Proba was also the main designer assigned to this pool project and she created a kaleidoscope-like mural with contrasting colors that made the surrounding space of the swimming pool more interesting and fun.  The project was curated by K&CO and Pliskin Architecture and was finished in the last quarter of 2020. The pool club is currently closed and will reopen to the public in summer this year, depending on New York State’s policies in line with the current pandemic.

Chic and Cool Outdoor Dining Furniture from Pedrali and Skargaarden

Outdoor chairs and sun lounges with cushions in different fabric colors complement modern pool spaces this year, with Italian brand Pedrali having released their latest collection of outdoor chairs in summer colors of pink and blue, called Panarea. Designed by CMP Design, the outdoor collection has won the BIG SEE Slovenia Product Design Award this year and it promises comfort and style while having a cool barbecue beside the pool. The Panarea armchairs are hand-woven in Italy and are made with colored polypropylene cords. The cushion is comfortable and made with a dry-feel polyurethane foam that is covered in fabric made with polypropylene yarn.

Another range of outdoor dining furniture that is a great addition to any barbecue set-up is the Häringe collection designed by Carl Jägnefelt and Joacim Wahlstrom for Swedish brand Skargaarden. The dining collection evokes a chic era that was inspired by the Häringe Castle, a jet set haunt in the 30s purchased by Torsten Kreuger on Landfjarden Bay which had Sweden’s first outdoor swimming pool in the castle gardens. The outdoor dining set includes dining tables, sun loungers, sofa, armchairs and lounge tables.
