Solarcity, the American solar provider, has announced it will integrate Tesla’s new Powerwall home storage battery solution along with its solar panels and control systems, making off-grid power more easily accessible.

This turnkey system will enable residential customers to store the excess energy produced by solar panels during the day to be used at night at home, therefore increasing independence from utility grid.

With this storage solution, residential customers will have the opportunity to power their home with their own clean energy at all time, putting an end to a situation that often led them to sell excess daytime energy to a power company and buying it again at night when needed.

Jonathan Bass, SolarCity spokesperson said the batteries will be first integrated in its technology for Hawaiian customers by 2016 before spreading in the rest of the U.S.
