On via Solferino, in a space protected from the bustling streets of Brera Design District, guests and contestants gathered for the Cristalplant Design Contest 2016 awards ceremony.
Pop music floated throughout the rooms newly furnished by designer Elisa Ossino in collaboration with File Under Pop, who supplied all the surface materials and paint products from Danish paint company Jotun.
The announcement: German designer Ellen Bernhardt, based in Milan, received first prize for her curved kitchen hood.
“This is my first time designing a kitchen product on my own without a partner,” Bernhardt told ArchiExpo e-Magazine. In 2008, she launched Bernhardt-Vella in partnership with Paola Vella. They work on industrial and graphic design and interior architecture projects such as the Iride lamp for furniture brand Arketipo.

A first solo design for the kitchen, her curved hood received much praise and applause.
Since 2009, Cristalplant has been partnering with top brands like Antoniolupi to hold its annual design contest. Competing designers use Cristalplant, a sustainable solid material, to create a product design for the partnering brand. Contestants in the Cristalplant Design Contest 2016, in partnership with kitchen brand Elica, designed a cooker extractor hood. Congrats to Ellen Bernhardt.
