The Cerea-based brand showed its collections which exemplify sustainability at the Salone del Mobile in Milan last June.

During a welcome speech in the Red Lounge, the President of Salone del Mobile.Milano Maria Porro explained the event’s gradual evolution toward becoming 100% sustainable. In line with this goal, many exhibitors aimed to fulfill the sustainability guidelines for this year’s event by showcasing exemplary eco-friendly products presented in what they could consider an eco-stand. For certain brands, however, the challenge remained rather simple as they’ve been heading down this path for many years.

Naturedesign, now in its third generation led by Thomas Franco and a leader in sustainability, continues to explore the expressive potential of centuries-old reclaimed wood and traditional crafts for its products, paired with stone, glass, leather and metal. Based in Cerea, near Verona, the brand has been a leader in sustainability since the beginning with the goal of rediscovering the region’s exceptional and rare traditions of artisan craftsmanship, a heritage to be preserved and protected, including the traditional glassmaking arts of Murano.

The company focuses its work on re-use and the principles of the circular economy. Its signature material is reclaimed wood from centuries-old architecture, expertly restored with meticulous woodworking and treated with 100% non-toxic and sustainable paints to preserve the patina of time.

Artisan processes, natural materials and a low environmental impact supply chain that extends to transportation, are specifically meant to curb CO2 consumption. Pieces from the latest collections are designed for “air-free” travel, that is, disassembled and in highly compact plastic-free packaging. A way to share love and respect for nature with everyone who chooses a table, sideboard, chair or bookshelf by Naturedesign.

Its ILL table is made of reclaimed wood from centuries-old architecture, expertly restored with meticulous and skilled woodworking, and treated with 100% non-toxic and sustainable paints. Its unique character is further enhanced by a mass-cast Murano glass base — made of cast glass on cast-iron molds, a typical Murano process that gives this quintessentially sustainable material the structural solidity it needs.

The Waterfall table, made entirely of glass, celebrates the material’s transparency and lightness, while the River sideboard, both modern and timeless, brings together reclaimed wood, glass and leather. The sinuous and organic surface of the Lympth table evokes biomorphic forms to introduce a new concept of conviviality. The earth-and-sky bookshelf Stem is available in rectangular or curved composition, with metal or wood uprights and glass or fired glass shelves, and can be placed on the wall or in the center of the room. The shelves are made of glass, fired glass and the uprights of FSC® wood.

Other sideboards showcased include the Dusk sideboard and the Geode sideboard. The Dusk sideboard, available in two versions, stands out for its style and textural effects. Its top is made from wood, ceramic and marble while its structure features FSC® wood and doors of FSC® wood and glass. The doors of the Geode sideboard are made from reclaimed wood while its frame is of brown planked Rovere Cotto wood and powder-coated burnished metal.

Additional tables in the collection are the Lympth table, the Sail table and the Waterfall table. The Lymph table takes on the sinuous contours of biomorphic forms. The shaped base supports a series of organically-shaped tops that create a soft and fluid convivial surface. Its top is made of FSC® wood and marble while its column base features FSC® wood, metal, marble. The base of Sail reveals aesthetic and constructive concepts reminiscent of unfurled sails. Contrasting with the thin steel of the structure, the top is made of wood, ceramic or marble, each version showcasing its particular material. Waterfall table Completely made of fired glass, each table is a unique, collectible piece. The purity of the design emphasizes skillful artisan craftsmanship. The unique rock-effect finish of the top creates striking textural effects, projecting soft hues with an air of natural balance. Its top and base are fired glass.

The collection includes two more seats: the Bay Wood armchair and the Pebble chair. Both chairs feature upholstery made of fabric, leather, nabuk. The supports for the Bay Wood armchair are made of FSC® wood.
