The 2015 Salone del Mobile in Milan will host a select cohort of designers from Argentina (Pavilion 8 at the Milan Fairgrounds). One notable Argentinean studio presenting its new designs is Crivos Objetos, whose vision embraces dressing a space in a vivid and vivacious manner. This is the second Milan outing for the brand, which strives to maintain colorful and communicative language in its new designs. The firm will introduce three new lights at the fair—Duit, OM and TATA.

Latin languages tend to signify love and Argentinean design brand Crivos Objetos unveils the work of designer couple Ivana Crivos and Cristian Izurrieta. Partnering up has led their products to brighten up a space as well as add color, effervescence, vitality and functionality. The usual, complimentary factor between designer couples prevails as Crivos describes their structure.

AE#9_duit“I am a fashion designer and tend to understand and design objects in a softer way, using fabrics and yarn,” said Crivos. “Cristian is an industrial designer and is concerned with how an object is built.” The studio has a history of designing lighting pieces. For Crivos, it is important that their wares begin to find a place in the global market. “The most interesting thing is that there are no borders and so it’s possible that our designs can travel and live together in other cultures, providing an element of play and color in people’s lives.”

The new fixtures set for launch in Milan tie together three materials—fabric, wood and acrylic. For example, wood strips are woven together into a tangled mass. In a spirit of playfulness, visitors to the Crivos Objetos stand are invited to have fun with the new lighting designs, changing, arranging and imagining how they might live with the pieces at home. While the studio has specialized in lighting over the past year, it also designs and manufactures other pieces. It currently produces custom furniture in Argentina.

“The luminaires are the cornerstone of our company,” explained Crivos. “We conceptually develop products that are not only lamps but whose purpose is decided by the user. They will decide where a lamp goes in their home, its shape and so on. Objects are part of our everyday life and may change shape or place according to the need, mood or desire of the owner. This is the fundamental basis of Crivos Objetos. It is a mode of dynamic thinking between the person, object and space.”

The team sees objects as imbued with vigor and a certain humorous irony. They are typically a fusion of technology and craftsmanship, combining contemporary textiles with traditional techniques to ensure delivery of a product that is both distinctive and artistic. “Our lighting is versatile, dressing the space, and in a way, appropriating parts of the space in which we live,” stated Crivos. Every piece is intended to create a sensory connection between the person and their space. From the viewpoint of Crivos Objetos, each and every object possesses a life of its own and a sense of belonging. It tells a story and is part of a family of characters that have been selected and placed by someone, thereby living with that person and playing a role in their daily being.”

AE#9_omAsked what stands apart in the Crivos Objetos body of work, what she is most proud of, the designer summarized, “Designing together as a couple is something of which we are especially proud. It gives us a sense of pride that people will use our objects, determining their utility and purpose. With today’s hectic lifestyles, we want the home to be a pleasant space, one that provides joy, play, color and fun. Thus, we say that objects do not have a single function and provide much more than merely lighting the home.”

Crivos Objetos will exhibit from 14 to 19 April 2015 in Pavilion 8, Stand F 32 at the Fiera Milano, Rho.
